IRU1Malaysia Junior Team Plans To Compete In European Kart Series 2011

Nik Iruwan Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd, a company specialized in grooming young drivers and promoting karting, is now at the stage of negotiation with relevant suppliers and its partners in Europe, in a bid to set up Malaysia's first outfit in the European Karting Series.

The company which is run by former National kart champion and Formula BMW Scholar, Nik Iruwan Dato' Nik Izani, is currently behind the BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team project which already in its first year collected its first title in the Asian Max Challenge.  A host of stars has driven for the team, including A1 Team Indonesia driver, Zahir Ali, Malaysia's Formula BMW Pacific driver, Fahmi Ilyas, Malaysia's rookie 14-year old Ron Tan, Indonesia's racing star of Alexandra Asmasoebrata and Ryan Haryanto. Singapore's latest exploit, 10-year old Daim Hishammudin, has benefited the most having successfully won the highly competitive Micromax category in the Asian Rotax Max Series.

The team which will be called Iru1Malaysia Junior Team plans to compete in the CIK/FIA inscribed official series, such as the KF3 European Championship (Under 15), KF2 European Championship (Senior) and the Formula 1 of karting or they call it Super KF. These are the categories which drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Robert Kubica and everyone on the F1 grid used to compete previously before moving up to single-seaters. The categories will be utilising the 125cc engine, with restrictors, varies according to the categories mentioned. All chassis and engines are not limited to just one supplier, thus it promotes competition between the manufacturers.

BHPetrol.Iru1 drivers with Nik_IruwanIru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd will be negotiating with its chassis supplier, CRG S.p.A, which the company is already the authorized distributor in Malaysia, to work on setting up the team to the highest standard of operation, having a mix of Malaysian and European crew to assist the Malaysian drivers to adapt to the European scene. The team will be based in Italy, possibly next to the CRG Factory at Desenzano, one hour away drive from Milan. CRG is the leading kart manufacturer in the world having produced drivers like Lewis Hamilton and  Force India's Vitantonio Liuzzi.

The management of Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd will be meeting the relevant parties in Italy next week to negotiate on the project, in which will be Malaysia's first venture into the highest level of karting as a team. It also plans for technology transfer on the equipments manufacturing, in a bid to produce Malaysian-made kart chassis by 2012.

Team Principal and CEO of Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd commented:

"We are going to create a complete package for Malaysia to compete with the best of the world and at the same time benefiting from the transfer of technology so that we can produce high-tech kart equipments on our own in the future. In the light of the formation of the 1Malaysia F1 Team, we recognize that the government is serious in developing the motorsport and Automotive industry as a whole. However, we cannot forget that karting is the base of any aspiring F1 drivers and Malaysians need to look at this seriously. With the set up of this, we hope that we can give the best opportunity for young drivers to compete at the highest level so that they are ready before moving up to single-seaters. Only the right competition and environment will accelerate their development".

Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd has also announced that it will retain its regional outfit, BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team to compete in the Malaysian and Asian Rotax Max Series in 2010. The team boast itself with a RM1,000,000 facilities at Mutiara Damansara, PJ, which houses the Showroom, Office and dedicated Workshop and R&D centre which was completed a month ago.

Nik Iruwan added, "We have all the facilities needed to run a successful race team in Asia, and the BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team is instrumental in unearthing local talents before sending them to Europe. Our training program locally has proven that it's the most cost effective way of racing in this region.

The Iru1Malaysia Junior Team project is subjected to be a joint venture between Iru1 Motorsports Sdn Bhd, the relevant government agencies and private investors in the automotive industry.
