BHPetrol.Iru1_Racing_Team_just_misses_on_maiden_victory1BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team's dream of its first victory was crushed at the final lap of the Asian Max Senior race when Formula BMW driver Fahmi Ilyas picked up loose debris, sending him to the wall. It was a rather strong weekend for the team, with BHPetrol.Iru1's Micromax star Daim Hishammudin extending his lead in the championship after finishing third in Prefinal and sixth in Final. Meanwhile, 14-year old Ron Tan (Senior) climbed up strongly from 25th on the grid to finish the race in 7th place. Indonesian Aldi Rizky (Senior), a new addition to the team, finished 12th and now third in the Series.

17 year-old Fahmi Ilyas who made his debut with the team this weekend impressed everyone in the race, by winning the prefinal and was leading the Final until the very last lap of the race. However loose dirt on the track caused by another driver caught Fahmi and he lost control of the kart, sending him to the wall. Syafiq Ali, from sister-team Pacific.Iru1 Racing Team, who was running second through out the race, inherited the position and achieved the first win of the season for the "CRG works team".

Fahmi Ilyas commented, "Firstly, I would like to thank Nik Iruwan for the opportunity to race with his team . I enjoyed the weekend very much and it could have been sweet to win the race. From the help of the team, we managed to get the right settings in the Prefinal and Final. There was a kart who skidded into the dirty side of the track and spilled some of the dirt on the the racing line. Since I was the first one to come to the corner, and it was a blind corner too, I got caught in it. It was just unfortunate but I'm happy for the team because they have done a good job".

Team Principal Nik Iruwan with Daim Hishammudin at the starting grid.Fahmi Ilyas started karting back in 2006 through Iru1 Motorsports Driver Management program. Fahmi then went on to race with other teams and in 2009 moved to Formula BMW Pacific with Team E-Rain notching up his first win two months ago at the Sepang International Circuit. He was invited to race with BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team based on his previous relationship with Team Principal, Nik Iruwan.

Another driver who made his debut in the team at Pekan was 15 year old rookie Aldi Rizky from Indonesia. Aldi finished a commendable 12th in the race, and now leads the Indonesian Rotax Max Series and fourth in the Asian Max Series just 12 points away from leader, Mikko Nassi of KRS Motorsport.

Meanwhile, the team's Micromax driver, 10 year old Daim Hishammudin extend his championship lead to nine points in the Asian Series after finishing third in Prefinal and sixth in Final. Daim suffered from engine problems in the Final, despite a strong weekend.

Fahmi Ilyas with BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team colors"Sister" team, Pacific.Iru1 Racing Team which is running identical CRG karts, however brought the cheer to the family after winning the Micromax class courtesy of Lukman Hakim and Senior class by Syafiq Ali. Andy Chang from Macau on CRG Dark Knight chassis brought third place for the team in the Junior class.

Both Fahmi Ilyas and Syafiq Ali was running on the latest CRG Bad Boy Chassis while Lukman Hakim was on a CRG Mini New Age chassis.

Team Principal of BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team, Nik Iruwan commented:
"I am very happy with the team this week, because we have moved our competitiveness to another level. It's great to have Fahmi Ilyas with us and he was able to show the true potential of the team. It was just unfortunate in the Final but the whole team now knows that we are capable of winning and this will just make us more confident of the next race. Daim also did well over the weekend despite being away on medical reason for almost two month, and even with that, he extends his champiomship lead by nine points. Ron again proved his customary charged through the field from 25th on the grid to 7th so that's quite a remarkable effort for a rookie. I would also like to congratulate our satellite team Pacific.Iru1 Racing for winning two of the categories and again this proved that the CRG chassis distributed by us is working perfectly!"

The championship now heads to the final round  at Speedway Plus, USJ, Selangor on 15th of August 2009.
